Carriage bolts are divided into large half round head carriage bolts (corresponding to standards GB/T14 and DIN603) and small half round head carriage bolts (corresponding to standards GB/T12-85) according to their head size. A carriage bolt is a type of fastener consisting of a head and a screw (a cylindrical body with external threads), which needs to be matched with a nut and used to tighten and connect two parts with through holes.

Generally speaking, bolts are used to connect two objects, usually through light holes, and need to be used in conjunction with nuts. They do not serve as a single connection. Tools usually use a wrench. The head is mostly hexagonal and generally larger. Carriage bolts are used in grooves, and the square neck is stuck in the groove during installation to prevent the bolt from rotating. Carriage bolts can move parallel in the groove. Due to the circular shape of the head of the carriage bolt, there is no design of a cross groove or an internal hexagon that can be used as an auxiliary tool, and it can also play a role in preventing theft during the actual connection process.

How to use carriage bolt

1、 Application scenarios of semi-circular head bolts

Half round head bolts are commonly used for hinged connections, including the following application scenarios:

1. Mechanical equipment connection. Half round head bolts are often used to connect components such as shafts and swing arms of mechanical equipment for articulated motion.

2. Structural connection. Half round head bolts can also be used for structural connections, especially in areas that require flexible connections, such as wall panels, ceilings, and doors and windows.

3. Transmission connection. Half round head bolts can also withstand transmission force, so they are used in the connection of transmission systems.

2、 Advantages and disadvantages of semi-circular head bolts

Compared to ordinary bolts, half round head bolts have the following advantages:

1. It can achieve hinged connection. The design of the head of the half round head bolt makes it easy to make hinged connections, which ordinary bolts cannot achieve.

2. Easy installation. Half round head bolts can be installed with just an appropriately sized pliers, without the need for special installation tools.

3. High strength. Compared with ordinary bolts of the same specification, half round head bolts have higher strength and can withstand larger loads.

However, half round head bolts also have some drawbacks:

1. Not easy to disassemble. Due to the special design of the head of the half round head bolt, special tools and techniques are required for disassembly.

2. The thread is prone to damage. The threaded part of the half round head bolt is prone to damage, which may limit its reusability.
